You may have also found that you are starting to withdraw from others as the guilt and shame become too much and you worry about how people would judge you if they ever found out. The belief that you have done something wrong can lead to you being extremely self-critical, where you punish yourself for thinking in an ‘unacceptable’ way, such as in a sexual or violent manner, or for causing potential harm to other people.
